CIRRUS Group is a member U.S. Technical Advisory Group (US TAG) of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) Systems Committee on Smart Cities. Through the US TAG, CIRRUS participates with international partners and experts in developing standards for Smart Sustainable Cities and Communities that align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

CIRRUS evolved from the NIST Global City Teams Challenge, which from 2014-2025 had built a public-private partnership with over 240 U.S. and international cities and 500 private-sector partners. Today, CIRRUS continues this mission to advance a national ecosystem of community innovation.
